"It is never too late to be what you might have been"
-- George Elliot

Hypnosis is a powerful tool for accessing the subconscious mind and changing thought patterns that were installed when you were a child. Your conscious mind consists of only 10-12% of your mind. The other 88-90% is made up of the subconscious mind. Your subconscious controls bodily functions, breathing, circulatory system, digestion, etc. It also controls automatic mental and emotional responses. It does this beneath the level of consciousness. That is the way it operates. So our responses to situations are often governed by past experiences that have nothing to do with the present moment. In the hypnotic state, I am able to gain access to the subconscious and give it suggestions that will quickly begin the process of change.

"Who is strong? He that can conquer his bad habits."
-- Ben Franklin

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is often defined as a trance state. It is a natural state that everyone experiences at least twice a day-just before waking and just before falling asleep. We can also enter environmental hypnosis when watching TV or a Movie, when driving, daydreaming, reading a good book, etc. Hypnosis, when used in a therapeutic setting is a process of allowing yourself to become more suggestible in order to change a thought or feeling in the subconscious mind therefore changing a behavior in the waking state.

People respond to hypnosis differently. Some describe their behavior as an altered state of consciousness. Others describe it a as a state of focused attention, in which they feel very calm and relaxed. Most people would describe it as a very pleasant state.

What is NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)?

NLP describes the way we take in information into the mind (Neuro), how we translate that information (Linguistic) and create patterns of behavior (Programming). Most importantly NLP is an open framed therapeutic tool that allows for complete flexibitliy to maximize change. Simply put, NLP allows me to understand how you do what you do in order for me to help you change. Fostering a physiology and psychology of excellence, NLP is a rapid and powerful tool for facilitating change.

Common Misconceptions about Hypnosis

  1. Hypnosis is not unconscious sleep. Even though the words "deep sleep" will be used to induce the state, you will be conscious while in hypnosis. In fact you may experience a state of extreme focus and concentration. You will remember most if not all that occurs during hypnosis, although sometimes there is some amnesia when you are very deeply hypnotized.

  2. You cannot get stuck in a state of hypnosis. In fact, you are in control at all times and you could "awaken" yourself at any moment if you desire.

  3. A hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything you don't want to do. Unlike stage hypnosis, where the participants willingly allow themselves to act foolishly, hypnotherapy is done with the client's consent and control. If you do not wish to change, no amount of suggestions will force you to change. Hypnosis is just a tool that allows you to support your desired change in your life.

  4. You will not divulge any secrets while in a hypnotic state. You will be very mentally aware and in control of your responses.

  5. Not all therapies require deep trances. In fact, many are much more effective in a light trance. A good example is weight loss where it is important that the subject remain aware of the suggestions being given.

Hypnosis can be a very powerful tool for change in a person's life. Whether you want to stop smoking, lose weight, reduce stress, overcome insomnia, overcome fears, or meet other challenges. But it is not a magic pill that will cure all without the client's active participation in the process. The suggestions work to reinforce and support conscious goals the client has developed. Change will happen more quickly and often times sabotaging behaviors can be circumvented through the effective use of suggestion, so it is recommended that client's give as much information as possible in order to assist the therapist in creating that change.

Hypnotherapists work with vocational and avocational self-improvement and are not licensed by the state of California as healing arts practitioners Some conditions may require medical or psychological referral.
